A NEW PLANT SPECIES FROM CAO BANG, VIETNAM

While investigating the diversity of the flora of northern Vietnam, the botanists from Vietnam National Museum of Nature, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Guangxi Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Science found and described a new plant species to science from Cao Bang, Vietnam, namely Oreocharis caobangensisT.V. Do, Y.G. Wei & F. Wen, sp. nov.(Gesneriaceae). The result was just published on Phytotaxa 302 (2017) (http://biotaxa.org/Phytotaxa/article/view/phytotaxa.302.1.6).
Oreocharis caobangensis is characterized by having a densely brownish villous petiole, lateral veins 6-8 pairs on each leaf blade, a small bract, 1.5-2 mm long; corolla outside pubescent; a glabrous pistil, 18-20 mm long. The new species has been found on humid soi in the shade, on dam rocks along streams in tropical evergreen forest at Phia Oac-Phia Den National Park, Cao Bang province, northern Vietnam.
